5 of the Worst UK Number 1 Singles since 2000

Everybody loves music of some kind, whether it be pop or rock, classical or reggae, rap or dance, you're sure to like something. The UK single chart is a weekly ranking of the top selling singles of the week. Here are 5 songs of the worst songs from the last 9 years that make me want to question my own nation's sanity.

5. "Baby Cakes" by 3 of a Kind

This 3 minute pop disaster was at the top of the UK chart for 1 week in August 2004. If you actually like this song then you're either deaf or need psychiatric help - fact*. The innuendo filled video features robot (I assume and hope that they're not normal) women who have baby oil on them, just like all robots have. They make cakes (out of babies?) for a couple of minutes before randomly malfunctioning, throwing food about the place and all over each other and thankfully dieing and ending the song. I apologise in advance for the 3 minutes of your life that you wasted listening to the song. If you haven't listened to the song already then I plead with you not to, you'll regret it.

*(Fact may not be 100% true).

4. "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock

All Summer Long is the most recent number 1 on this list, topping the UK singles chart on August 3rd 2008 for 1 week. Ok, I guess some of you might like this song and question why it's on here. So why is it on this list? Well, it's obvious, it's a blatant rip-off of Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Hell, the song even features the lyric "singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long" a total of 10 times. 10 f'ing times. Not once, not twice, not three or four or five times. No, 10 times! That and the fact that the song is just plain awful.

3. "It's Chico Time" by Chico

Chico gained the number 1 spot on March 5th 2006, knocking Madonna off the top and staying there for 2 weeks. Chico is famous for being on X Factor and getting to the quarter finals, despite the fact that he can't sing. In fact, in his original audition for the show Simon Cowell walked out after fellow judges Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh voted him through to the second round - that's how bad he was. Yes, he could be seen as entertaining, but he can NOT sing. The song is repetitive and the constant references to the phrase "It's Chico Time" continue today, which is very tedious. The song was mildly entertaining for a while but the novelty wore off quickly.

2. "Can We Fix It?" by Bob the Builder

Bob the Builder, for those who don't know, is a children's TV show. The theme song was extended and released as a single, topping the charts in December 2000 for 3 weeks. Not only did it top the single chart for 3 weeks, but it's one of only ten singles since the year 2000 that has sold a million copies. Yes. The theme to a children's tv show sold a million frickin' copies. Not only that, but Bob the Builder returned to the top of the charts with their version of "Mambo No.5" in September 2001, holding the top spot for another 3 weeks. Says a lot for Britain's music taste that a children's tv show character reached the top of the singles chart with 2 singles, totalling 6 weeks with one of them selling over a million copies. I'll leave that one there.

1. "Axel F" by the Crazy Frog

If you've heard this song (and I'm sure you would have unless you were living under a rock for a couple of years) then you'll know how annoying it is. The Crazy Frog shot to stardom in the year 2004 as a ringtone, releasing a remix of it entitled "Axel F" in the year 2005. On the 29th May 2005, the Crazy Frog gained the number 1 spot in the Uk singles chart for 4 weeks. The song was played everywhere by everyone for what seemed like forever (and I'm sure it was). Not only did it reach the top spot in the UK, but it also did in Turkey, New Zealand, Australia and most of Europe. I, like many others, have an immense hatred for the bloody frog and I hope I wasn't the only one asking myself what the hell was going on when this persistant annoyance was everywhere you went.

Welcome to the site!

Have some time to waste? Of course you do, that's why you're on the internet. If you have time to waste while sitting around the house doing nothing, time to waste while at work or school (there's always time to waste when you're working, am I right?!), a little time to waste before you have to rush on out or even a spare few minutes before you go to bed, this blog will be able to keep you busy for a bit and of course help you waste some time. It's going to have (hopefully) many original articles and lists. So stick around, see what happens and waste some time - just like God intended you to do
